Prodigious 19-year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tom Misch teamed up with singer, songwriter Carmody for the stunning 'Out To Sea' EP released on his own label Beyond The Groove. The collection of five tracks follows on from the duo’s garage-inflected collaboration "The Last Song" from earlier this year. The pair once again display a strong musical connection, co-writing the melodies with Misch on production duties and Carmody focusing on the lyrical content of the songs.
Taking his cues from the stripped-back approach of the likes of James Blake and The XX, Misch works wonders with the simplest of elements and uncluttered arrangements. Carmody's delicate vocals blend perfectly with Misch’s gently rasping tones over the five tracks... 'Out To Sea' is the sound of modern, urban London, but with a deliberate nod to both Misch’s US inspirations such as J Dilla and Robert Glasper and Carmody's folk influences such as Joan Armatrading and Judee Sill. The pair are already collaborating on further tracks whilst also focussing on their individual solo projects. The future is looking incredibly bright for both of these young artists, certainly ones to watch for 2015.
